I remember talking to a friend of mine at MIT before the Wired article came out and he told me (to my dismay) that it would be at least 10 years before anything mass-market would be available. It was the 90s and I didn't believe him, but he may turn out to be right.

An article does not a technology make, either. Besides, this is just proof of concept. You have reason to be skeptical, but not that the technology works, rather that it will ever make it into your hands.

You got a Segway? Can I ride it?

I have seen a similar technology in use at the mini market on the Palisades Parkway, just north of the GWB. Not earth shattering: just a two-state ad for cigarettes, but proof of concept in the real world. Not E-ink; something thicker. But color, too.
