Second book, Collapse, was great because the Easter Island endgame was extremely satisfying to read about finally (Jared Diamond). He gave quantitative results from recent siftings of middens and swamps on Easter island for microscopic things like pollen, year by year. A society that relies on boating accidently killing every last plant higher than three feet tall -- poignant and blackly hilarious. Also Diamond's account of the religious/chauvinistic attitudes leading to the starvation of Danes on Greenland was dramatic.
